Wabara Hails Supreme Court Ruling On Abia Guber Poll.....Says Buhari A Genuine Fighter Against Corruption

Former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara has hailed the last week judgement of the Supreme Court on the governorship election of Abia State which gave victory to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP against the earlier ruling of the Court of Appeal.

The Appellate Court had upturned Ikeazu’s election and declared Dr. Alex Otti of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the duly elected governor of Abia State.

Wabara, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees from Abia State, who had led the protest against the Court of Appeal verdict in Abia, described the Supreme Court judgement as divine. He applauded the boldness of the Apex Court judges and the neutrality of President Muhammadu Buhari in all the governorship election cases.

Speaking in an interview, the former number three citizen of the country said: “I want to thank God almighty for that divine judgement. I see that judgement as divine because God gave us a God-fearing CJ who is apolitical and not partisan. He made sure that judgements at that level as it concerns governorship elections were in accordance with the law. And frankly he has saved democracy in this country. So, I want to thank God first and thank him, the CJ and the entire members of the judiciary at that level for a well-deserved judgement for my dear state.

I am a staunch PDP member. But I have to also commend President Muhammadu Buhari for his non-interference in all the governorship election cases. I want to appreciate him for not interfering with the judiciary and not influencing the judiciary to favour his party the APC.”

Continuing, he said: “The other day the chairman of the APC was actually talking against Supreme Court judgement. But Buhari as Mr. President has not reacted. And of course that shows that when fighting corruption, it is not only about money or stolen money, even your policies and interference could also be corrupt. So, this shows that Buhari is indeed a genuine fighter against corruption.

Like I said, I appreciate him and will continue to respect him and support his fight against corruption. If he had interfered then I would have had a second look at his crusade against corruption. Clearly he did not interfere. In those days we use to see judges going in and out of the villa, taking instructions from the occupants. But this did not happen. He (Buhari) was busy tackling Nigeria’s international problems aimed at attracting foreign investors and repairing the image of the country. If he had interfered the result won’t have been what we saw or what we are seeing today.”

Wabara called on the National Judicial council, NJC, to set up a panel to probe the judges that handled the governorship election cases of Abia, Rivers and Akwa-Ibom at the level of the appellate court, noting that they may have been compromised for delivering their judgements outside the law.
