Governor Ugwuanyi charges Nigeria Police on sporting activities

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has expressed his administration's commitment to support sporting activities in order to return the state to its glorious days as breeding ground for celebrated sports personalities in the country.

The governor who disclosed this while declaring open the 2016 edition of the Nigeria Police Games for zone 9 at  Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, noted that the vision to engage the youths positively, create jobs and market Enugu State remains the cardinal objective of his

administration.
While commending the Nigerian Police through the zone 9 headquarters for the worthy initiative it took to organize the event, the governor equally assured the force of his administration's readiness to

continue to partner and provide necessary cooperation and assistance that would help it produce first class athletes capable of doing the country proud in global sports circles.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police zone 9, AIG Usman A Gwary, noted that the Nigerian Police has remained a veritable pillar of sports development in Nigeria.

Gwary commended the tremendous support the Enugu State Government and

other states of the south east have been according the police force to ensure the success of the games, adding that the history of sports in Nigeria cannot be complete without the mention of the Nigeria Police.

He regretted that in recent times, Nigeria's fortunes in sports have dwindled because the police force games have not been regular, but expressed happiness that the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon

Arase has reinvigorated the games.
The AIG charged all competitors in the games to observe the rules and regulations reminding them that discipline has remained the bedrock of the Nigeria Police.
