We Should Support Our Army To End Insurgency—Committee Leader

The chairman House of Representative committee on Army, Hon. Jonathan Gaza has said the House will support the Army in whatever way to see that they end insurgency in the North-east and the country at large.

Hon. Jonathan who stated this at Maimalari cantonment while on oversight function of the committee said the army has done well in its fight against insurgency, as they have liberated all areas under the Boko Haram captivity.

"We have gone round the army formations and have seen things for ourselves. The military are doing very well, we should encourage them in whatever way to carry out their mandate effectively. We will look at whatever their challenges are and support them. We should encourage our soldiers to succeed. We believe very soon the insurgency will be a thing of the past”

“I can assure you as the responsible representative of the people, the 8th Assembly will support the Army to success, for every operation there must be some challenges but we'll support them to surmount the challenges,” he said .

While at the headquarters of Theatre Command, the Theatre Commander Major General Hassan Umaru represented by the Deputy Theater Commander, Major General Leo Irabor commended the House Committee for the visit, assuring them that the Army will do its best to root out insurgents in the north-east.

Also speaking, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu said this is the first time a House committee is visiting the division since it was created in 2013.

The GOC gave the assurance that the Army will do its best to make sure all Nigerians are living in safely wherever they are, stressing that the Division which is at the centre of the operation will do everything to push out the insurgents in the nations territory.
