Pdp Spokesman, Metuh, Gets N400m Bail Condition

SAN FRANCISCO, January 19, (THEWILL) – A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olisa Metuh, who was handcuffed to the court on Tuesday.

The PDP spokesman, who was remanded in Kuje prison on Friday, was brought to the court by officials of the Nigerian Prisons Service. He had been under arrest since January 5, 2016.

In a bench ruling on Tuesday, Justice Okon Abang ordered Metuh, who is being arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on seven count charges of breach of public trust, corrupt acquisition of public funds and money laundering, to pay N400m. Metuh was also directed by the court to provide two sureties who are to pay N200m each.

Justice Abang ruled that both sureties must be resident in Abuja and should swear an affidavit of means with two passport photographs. The PDP spokesman was also ordered to deposit his travel document with the court.
