SAN FRANCISCO, January 16, (THEWILL) – The All Progressives Congress, APC, has come hard on the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign or be impeached by the National Assembly over the alleged missing budget saga.

It would be recalled that the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus had last Thursday called for the removal of President Muhammadu Buhari as well as the resignation of two ministers and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

But reacting to this call in a statement issued yesterday by its National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, the governing party saw the demand by the PDP as “comical” and a “distraction”.

While reminding the opposition party that Nigeria is not a Banana Republic, but a country governed by laws, the party in power said, “It is confusing and worrisome that the PDP calls for an investigation into the budget issue and at the same time calls for the removal and resignation of the aforementioned.

“In both content and context, PDP's statement constitutes a distraction to the National Assembly.”

The APC expressed confidence that the 8th National Assembly will not be distracted by the PDP in its new desperate ploy to divert attention from the ongoing investigation into mind-boggling cases of corruption perpetuated under its defunct 16-year rule.

Mr. Bunu in the statement issued on his behalf by the party's Assistant Director of Media, Mr. Eydegbe Odemwingie, stressing that the PDP should support the anti-corruption campaign of President Buhari instead of asking him to quit over disagreements on the 2016 budget proposal.

“Nigerians are still shocked and recovering from the wanton looting perpetuated in the last 16 years under the PDP. We invite the PDP to supports current efforts aimed at social, economic and institutional reforms,” the statement noted.
