ICD To Offer Scholarship To 20 Nigerian Youths
The Berlin based Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD), in Germany has concluded arrangement to offer scholarship to 20 Nigerian youths.
This is contain in a statement signed on Wednesday by Mr Dicson Omoregie, Country Representative of the ICD in Nigeria and made available to News Men in Yola.
According to the statement, beyond the scholarship to study, the beneficiaries would also receive work permit to enable them work in any part of Germany.
``Although the beneficiaries have not been named, but it is expected that the federal government in conjunction with the ICD would determine those to represent Nigeria at the programme which is to take place in Germany.
The statement further disclosed that the decision to honour Nigerians was taken during the just concluded annual conference on Cultural Diplomacy.
It said that Omoregie also presented a paper at the conference titled, " the application of culture and youth development in combating terrorism" using Nigeria as a case study.
It noted that the level of insecurity in Nigeria was on the rise.
``Nigeria which is multi-cultural in nature with a large population is capable of providing great prospects with cultural values harvestable, hence the ICD is attracted to Nigeria".
The statement disclosed that a cross section of ex-European presidents were in attendance among whom were President Emil Constantinescu, former President of Romania, the former Prime Minister of Malta, President Lawrence Gonza.
Others were the former President of Latvia, President Vladis Zati including the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, Usman Abubakar.
Omoregie encouraged the Federal and State s Government that were already in partnership with the ICD to take advantage of ICD’s offer and build on it to advance the course of education and youth development in Nigeria.
" Judges from international courts, Senate Presidents and top politicians from different countries were also in the attendance. Cultural Diplomacy is an agreed means of realizing Global Peace especially at this time of Greater Global Insecurity" the statement said.
The ICD is an international, non-profit, non-governmental organisation with headquarters in Berlin, Germany.
It was set up to promote global peace and stability through strengthening and supporting intercultural relations at all levels.
