Mrs. Obiano Market Toilet Project Promotes Hygiene In Anambra Communities
In keeping with her promise to support the administration of her husband, Governor Willie Obiano through the projects of her NGO, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), Chief Mrs. EbelechukwuObiano has commenced the construction of Market Toilets in select communities across the three Senatorial Districts of Anambra State to promote hygiene and preserve the dignity of the rural women.
Already the projects which were flagged-off at Mbaukwu in Awka South Local Government Area in December 2015 are nearing completion at Eke IgweNteje, Oyi Local Government Area, Nri in Anaocha, amongst other rural markets as part of CAFE Hygiene Promotion in communities.
Speaking during the flag-off, Chief Mrs. Obiano told the women and community leaders, that the construction of toilet facility is part of the first phase of the Market Toilet project. According to her; “the aim of this project is to preserve the dignity of the rural woman who lacks convenience in the market place where she sells her wares. It allows traders the freedom to carry on with their businesses in a clean environment. Apart from promoting hygiene, it is also a source of empowerment because women leaders will manage it and keep it clean with little money collected from users.”
Mrs. Obiano stated that a borehole would be sited nearby to provide water to the facility while at the same time dispensing water to locals through an extended outlet. She called on the people to treat the toilet facilities as their own and ensure that they are well kept on completion. She thanked the people for voting APGA during the last elections and appealed for their continued support to the Obiano administration in order to continue to enjoy the dividend of democracy.
Furthermore, Mrs. Obiano informed the people of her determination to continue to carry everybody along through her NGO and challenged those who needed to be empowered to identify with her office to benefit from the ongoing skills acquisition programme. She eulogized governor Obiano’s developmental strides across the state and called for continuous support and protection of government properties in the communities.
Commending the initiative, Chairman of Awka South Local Government, AzubikaIlo, said that the Market Toilet project is a welcome relief to women and would go a long way in promoting healthy community markets. He noted that the gesture by Wife of the governor is a clear demonstration of her commitment to the welfare of Anambra women and a good initiative that supports the governor’s effort in developing the whole state. He assured Mrs. Obiano of the support of the Local Government in ensuring that the facility is not vandalized but serves the purpose it is meant for.
In the same vein, during the flag-off at Eke IgweNteje Market Toilet Project, Chairman of Oyi Local Government Council Mr. Maxi Oraefo commended governor Obiano and his wife for working towards better living condition in the communities, whilst calling on the women to make good use of the facility when completed, and the people of Nteje to give the governor and his wife maximum support.
On his part the traditional ruler of Nteje, His Royal Highness, Igwe Roland Odegbo while welcoming Chief Mrs. obiano listed some of her good works to include caring for the less privileged, care for the mentally sick, provision of houses for Widows and promotion of hygiene through construction of market toilets among others. He thanked her for choosing Nteje community, assuring that his people are grateful for the gesture and would maintain the facilities.
The Market Toilet projects initiative is undertaken by CAFE. The facility has two sections for women and men with a bore hole and overhead tank to ensure regular supply of water.
