Baro’s Attempted Kidnap On Me Failed, Olorogun Ighedo Alleged

The Chief Liaison Officer (CLO) of Dewu Construction Company, Olorogun Daniel Ighedo in Ekpan Community, Warri Delta State has alleged that the embattled chairman of Uvwie local government council, Hon Henry Baro has attempted to whisk him to an unknown destination but the plan failed when police officers attached to him repelled the kidnap and murder attempt on him.

Ighedo who spoke with our correspondent in Asaba, also accused the suspended Uvwie boss and one Newton who emerged the head of Ekpan community of making life unbearable for the community by engaging in unwholesome activities which has brought restiveness to the community.

The CLO said, “I went to my office to resume work with some security men, suddenly I saw Henry Baro, the suspended Uvwie local government chairman saying what I my doing in the office? I told him the governor gave me permission to come and resume my work, immediately he made a call across to Newton to send thugs to our company premises and not quite long more than 50 armed thugs invaded the company in the presence of more than 14 mobile policemen with me and they started attacking me”.

According to him, the attack continued, “until they remove my tooth and they actually took me in their vehicle getting ready to take me away to an undisclosed place maybe to kill. Thanked God for the intervention of the policemen with me, they saw that the harm they were doing to me was getting too much they started shooting to dispatch them and that was how they started running until the mobile policemen rescued me and took me to Area Command”.

He disclosed that he launched a complaint with the Area Command and the state police headquarters including Zone 5, Benin City who in turn invited Baro and Newton, noting that they have failed to honour the invitation because, “they have armed thugs guarding them. They said Okowa is the governor of Agbor while they are the governors of Uvwie”.

He revealed that he called on the police on hearing that Hon Baro was at the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) in order for him to answer for himself over the alleged kidnap and murder attempt on his life, “but instead, he made a lot of issues, a lot of his boys and personal security were harassing us. Before the policemen that came with me went back to mobilize and came back he has taken off”.

He also accused the police of complicity over the matter, “security agents are so deep in them because they collect money. When you report criminal issues to them security men on ground will advise you not to go near them because they are very dangerous. You can imagine an Area Commander saying we cannot arrest them because they are well armed.

He called on the present administration to checkmate the activities of Baro and Newton in Uvwie as he alleged further that the duo have turn gun runners, recruit young boys as body guards even as he alleged that the immediate past governor of the state Mr. Emmanuel Uduaghan was in full support of their atrocities.

Efforts made by our correspondent to get Mr. Baro to comment on the allegation levelled against him by Olorogun Ighedo proved abortive.
