Gej Applauded By Commonwealth For Able Leadership

BEVERLY HILLS, January 07, (THEWILL) – Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ), has been applauded by the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Kamalesh Sharma, for his able leadership.

GEJ, who paid a courtesy visit to the Marlborough House, Headquarters of the Commonwealth Secretariat for the first time, was welcomed by Sharma and thanked for his services.

GEJ was the leader of the Commonwealth Election Observer Group (COG) to Tanzania, and subsequently, Special Representative of the Commonwealth to Zanzibar following the annulment of its elections.

Sharma also paid tribute to the personal leadership of the former president in the peaceful transition to a new government in Nigeria after the last election.

Jonathan, who briefed the Secretary-General on the activities of the Observer Group in Tanzania, lauded the Commonwealth Secretariat for supporting him with a team that displayed a high level of team spirit and professionalism.

He also expressed concerns about the persisting uncertainty in Zanzibar following the cancellation of the October 25 general elections but expressed hope that the leaders of the country would put the national interest and the people first.

He commended the Commonwealth for its efforts in promoting peaceful and credible elections globally, especially in Africa and pledged to work with the organisation in the promotion of democracy and good governance on the continent.
