BEVERLY HILLS, January 07, (THEWILL) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Lawal Jafaru Isa, an ally and staunch associate of President Muhammadu Buhari over the Dasukigate scandal.

Isa, who was a member of the Ahmed Joda-led transition committee set up by Buhari, is the first member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to be quizzed by EFCC since the party took over power.

He was said to have received a gift of $5 million which was traced to the $2.1 billion arms fund allegedly diverted by former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

Sources say he had been invited by the EFCC to explain the circumstances surrounding the million-dollar gift but failed to honour the invitation till he was picked up on Wednesday night.

Isa, a retired brigadier general who has been supporting Buhari's presidential aspiration since 2003 was given the 'gift' to buy his support in the 2015 general election through Mohammed Abacha.

Abacha defected from Buhari's Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011 and wanted the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano but suddenly withdrew.
