BEVERLY HILLS, January 06, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, was on Wednesday morning thrown into a mourning mood when one of its officials, Mr. Ibrahim Abubakar, was shot dead by yet-to-be identified armed robbers in his Abuja home.

The death of Abubakar, who until his murder was the organization's Head of Protocol, was announced on the federation's Twitter handle (@thenff) shortly afterwards.

“NFF’s Head of Protocol Ibrahim Abubakar was shot dead by armed robbers in his house in Abuja in the early hours of today,” the NFF tweeted on Wednesday morning.

“Abubakar’s remains is being taken to Kaduna for burial.”

This tragic development was further confirmed by the Super Eagles' media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, when he tweeted: “Shocking, devastating & tragic news about the killing of @thenff’s head of protocol Ibrahim Abubakar by armed robbers this morning in Abuja.”

It is feared that the news may affect the morale of the home-based Super Eagles who are preparing in South Africa for the African Nations Championships, and are billed to play a friendly match against Angola later on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, former Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo, has bemoaned the killing of the chief protocol officer, who he described as a “good friend”.
