2016 Budget: Katsina earmarks N22.2bn for education devt

The Katsina State Government has said that it earmarked N22.2 billion for the development of the education sector in the 2016 fiscal year.

It said that 80 per cent of the budgetary allocation to the sector would be spent on the renovation of primary and secondary schools in the state.

Alhaji Abdullahi Imam, the Special Adviser to Gov. Aminu Masari on Budget and Economic Affairs, disclosed this in Katsina on Thursday during a budget breakdown.

Imam said that tertiary institutions in the state would be allocated 20 per cent of the budget for education.

He said that the government would overhaul secondary and primary education in the state to create an atmosphere conducive for learning.

'The government will use part of the funds to equip secondary and primary schools with furniture and other teaching aids.

'The government will use the funds to recruit more teachers for the primary and secondary schools in the state.

'We are determined to upgrade schools so as to create a good environment to boost enrolment of pupils and secondary school students in the state.'

The special adviser urged the people of the state to support the APC-led government in the state so that it can provide them with more dividends of democracy. (NAN)
