A mild drama played out on Thursday at the floor of Anambra State House of Assembly as five lawmakers angrily walked out of the plenary over an alleged violation of order 39 of house standing rule.

The walkout lawmakers, both members of the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) were Hon. Chugbo Enwezor of Onitsha 1 state constituency; Hon. Kingsley Iruba, Nnewi South 1 state Constituency; Hon. Ikemefune Uzoezie, Aguata 2 state constituency; Hon. Godwin Okafor, Awka South 1; and Hon. Ezenwune Chukwuka of Idemili South state constituency.

News48hrs.com reports that trouble started when Hon. Chris Emenaka of Anambra East Constituency stood to present what he termed a motion of urgent importance commending Governor Willie Obiano for distributing American modeled security/crime detective vehicles to policemen in the state earlier in the week.

At the spot, the aggrieved lawmakers raised hands up to counter the motion on the basis that they were not previously briefed of the motion as been practiced in accordance to order 39. However, as they stood shouting on top of their voice to be recognized, the hands of other lawmakers from Anambra north senatorial zone were equally up, shouting ‘order overrule’.

The Speaker, Hon. Rita Maduagwu, in response, snubbed the voice calling for suspension of the motion, and quickly signaled the House Majority Leader, Hon. Victor Jideofor Okoye of Anambra West State constituency to support the motion insisting that “order over rule”.

In other hands, our reporter who was at the press galaxy covering the event reported that, Hon. Emeneka was equally shouting ‘motion sustained’, ‘I have the floor honourable colleagues’, etc.

As a result, the five lawmakers angrily staged a walkout from the plenary at once as if already planned. This development provided opportunity for sponsor of the motion, Hon. Chris Emeneka to present his motion of urgent importance.

He explained that the need to present the motion was borne out of his desire to commend the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano because according to him, he break jinx of security, having distributed the best crime detection vehicle first of its kinds in Nigeria with a view to eradicating crimes in the state.

Contributors to the motion including the House Speaker, Hon. Maduagwu stressed that although the motion was not previously announced prior to the date, it was apt so as to encourage “the working willie on his giant strides secure the lives and properties of Anambrarians and residents especially this yuletide.”
