BEVERLY HILLS, December 10, (THEWILL) – Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Momoh Jimoh, was on Thursday impeached by seventeen (17) out of the 25-member House.

A lawmaker from Idah was said to have moved the motion for the impeachment of the Speaker, which was well received by majority of the members. Jimoh is accused of financial recklessness and misconduct.

Afterwards, the House wasted no time in electing the member representing Ogori/Magongo State constituency, Hon. Godwin Osiyi, to take the place of the deposed Speaker. The State House of Assembly comprises of 14 PDP members and 11 APC members.

Speculations are rife the impeachment of the Speaker may not be unconnected with the highwire politicking in the state to placate the people of Kogi East. This is as both the newly elected governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello and the impeached Speaker are from the same Okene Local Government Area.

Some residents of Lokoja, the state capital, are of the view that the Speaker may have been impeached to ensure power balance in the state.
