Mrs. Obiano Spreads Christmas Love To Indigent Women, Widows And Orphans

In keeping with her commitment to the wellbeing of indigent women, widows and orphans in Anambra state, the wife of the governor of Anambra state, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano has commenced distribution of rice and money for soup condiments to beneficiaries across the 177 communities in the state as part of her community tour which kicked-off at Ayamelum and Anambra East on Monday and Oyi and Dunukofia Local Government Areas on Tuesday.

Addressing the crowd at St Joseph Field, Anaku, Ayamelum and Otuocha, Anambra East comprising beneficiaries from the various communities, and members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the respective LGAs, Chief (Mrs.) Obiano said that she came to make sure that indigent women, widows, orphans in the communities do not have a bleak Christmas by supporting them with bags of rice, bags of fertilizer, school bags and money for soup condiments to indigent women, widows, orphans.

The Christmas gesture include numerous bags of fertilizer and cassava stocks, hundreds of bags of rice plus N3,000 each to 20 women and widows, school bags containing all the writing materials and cash of N2,000 to each of the 10 orphaned pupils and cash of N3,000 to some physically challenged from each community in the 21 LGAs.

Speaking while flagging off the distribution of the rice, fertilizer and cash to the needy at Anaku, Ayamelum Council headquarters, Chief Mrs. Obiano thanked the women and members of the community for turning out en-masse to welcome her, assuring that she would continue to train and empower their people in order to be self-reliant. The wife of the governor disclosed that the visit was to enable her reach out and assist less privileged people ahead of Christmas to ensure that the many in the communities are assisted to be part of the celebration.

The founder of Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFÉ) challenged those who want to be empowered to identify and register with her NGO in order to benefit from the empowerment and training programmes organized from time to time.

She noted that the gesture was made possible through the support and donation of philanthropists and well-meaning persons to her pet project, CAFE, stressing that her efforts were targeted at supporting the good governance of her husband, Chief Willie Obiano.

Describing her husband as an action governor, Chief Mrs. Obiano informed the people that old people of the state are being paid stipends monthly, stressing that in the face of mean financial resources from the Federal Government, the State government has increased internally generated revenue of the State from N500 million to N1.3 billion in nineteen months as well as attracted investments to the tune of USD 2.6 billion.

Chief Mrs. Obiano further announced that over eight hundred physically challenged have received artificial limbs, while many children have received free surgery to correct cleft lip and cleft palate deformity.

In a message of welcome, the former local government chairman of the Council and State Secretary APGA, Barrister. Tony Ifeanya thanked Chief Mrs. Obiano for empowering the people of his area and commended governor Obiano for attracting Coched Farms in Anaku which has now produced the first batch of rice, while Excel Farms is also setting up tomato and cassava production at Omasi also in Ayamelum.

He appreciated the ongoing construction of bridges and roads by the governor across the state, and urged people of Ayamelum to continue to support governor Obiano and his wife in order to keep enjoying the dividend of democracy.

The wife of the governor who also toured Anambra East Local Government Area was accompanied by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oby Okeke, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Victoria Chikwelu, Wife of the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mrs. Sylvia Oseke, Provost of College of Education, Nsugbe, Dr.Ego Uzoezie amongst other dignitaries

Groups in attendance include; Osodieme Divine Women Group, Osodieme Women Mobilization Group, CAFÉ Ambassadors, National Council of Women Societies, Anambra State Traders Association, Women wing and local dance troupes and other women in the communities whose representatives appreciated the visit by the governor's wife with some farm produce.
