Adamawa Lawmaker May Forfeit Seat For Demanding Bribe From SSG

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has declared that its former Chairman on Finance and Appropriation Hon Abdurahman Abubakar representing Mubi South who was suspended on alleged bribery scandal is at the risk of loosing his seat if he fails to meet up with the constitutional requirement of 100 day sitting.

The Chief Whip of the House, Honourable Hassan Burgumah at a press conference held at the Conference Hall of the House of Assembly said that relevant constitution section would be invoked to protect sanity of the nation's constitution of 100 days sitting requirement by the lawmakers.

Burgumah explained that Abdulrahaman was suspended for 3months on allegation that he was demanding bribes from some contractors working in the state,including the Secretary to the State Government(SSG) .

" The record is there for anybody to verify, Abdulhaman asked SSG to give him money, if governor want support of the House. He even went ahead to threat some contractors working in Mubi, to give him money. Because of his questionable character we decided to dissolve the committee he headed which he now turn to ticket meal." He said

The Chief Whip explained that the suspended member took the House to court to seek for an injunction directing the house to stay action on him pending the determination of the suit.

He added that the court injunction he sought for had been belated because the erring lawmaker had started serving his suspension before he went to the court.

It would be recalled that members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly had announced the suspension of Abdulrahman Isa for the period of three months over a virement letter of Governor Mohammadu Jibrilla Bindow sent to the House which he raised objection.
