FG Set To Develop National Land Policy.
Plans are underway by the Federal Government to develop a National Land policy so as to attain positive reforms in land administration in Nigeria.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr George A. Ossi disclosed this at the Commemoration of the 2015 World Habitat Day in Abuja.
The Permanent Secretary who was represented by the Director, Architectural services, Arch. Sani Gidado said that the Ministry is fully committed to growing the housing sector and harnessing its vast potentials for sustainable natural development in the country.
He explained that aside establishing and implementing key policies like the National Housing Policy, National Urban Development Policy and the National Building Code, the Ministry has also set up a sustenance foundation to ensure efficient use of physical space in housing revolution in Nigeria.
Mr. Ossi however urged relevant stakeholders to put in place appropriate mechanism for effective design and improvement of public spaces in all phases of physical planning and development activities.
In a remark, UN-Habitat Executive Director, Dr Joan Clos said that public space provides room for social and cultural interaction while fostering a sense of belonging and pride in an area.
He observed that where public space is inadequate or poorly Designed, the city becomes segregated.
According to him, "it is worrying that provision of public space is limited in many cities".
