BEVERLY HILLS, September 29, (THEWILL) – The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has been called upon to establish a full- fledged College of Accounting similar to the one in Jos, Plateau State, in Cross River State.

Governor of Cross River State, Professor Benedict Ayade, who made the request when the national leadership of ANAN led by its President, Anthony Chukwuemeka Nzom paid him a courtesy visit at the Executive Chambers of the Governor's Office Calabar, Tuesday, stressed the need for the establishment of the College in Calabar.

According to Ayade, “we run a state that is deliberately focused and highly civilised people with high ethics and morals known for their passion for accountability and proven integrity with men vast in accounting techniques which is why in spite of the lean resources of the state, the state is still resourceful.”

The Governor assured that the government and people of Cross River State will whole-heartedly receive and encourage ANAN plans to establish the South-South region of the College in Calabar which is the reason for their coming, and promised that his administration will do its best to encourage and support the association to achieve its set target in terms of providing it with the means of transportation and accommodation, stressing that “we give not because we have but because we care.”

Ayade challenged ANAN to furiously attack corruption and condemn it in its entirety by making sure that accountants are people with ethics, knowledge and integrity.

He invited the association to bring its next Annual General Conference to Calabar.

Speaking earlier, ANAN President, Anthony Chukwuemeka Nzom (FCNA), commended the governor for the achievements recorded within a very short period, saying he was certain that at the end of four years, it will be clear to all that Ayade is a great strategist whose performances would be outstanding.

He explained that he knew Ayade as Senator through his positive contributions at the floor of the red chambers, stressing that what the senate has lost, Cross River State has gained, and that the state was even more blessed at this time with two erudite professors as governor and deputy governor.

The ANAN national President said that the body was established in 1979 and that ANAN is recognised as the number two professional accounting body in Africa by the Pan-African Federation of Accountants which is the continent’s body for professional accountants.

He told the governor that the body has a college in Jos, Plateau state which admits only first degree and HND holders and that they were in Cross River because the body had concluded plans to establish a branch of the college in the state for the South-South geo-political region.

Nzom described Ayade as a thorough-bred strategist who will do great things for Cross River State.
