Seal the Crude has condoled with the Department of State Security (DSS) on

the gruesome murder of some of its operatives by pipeline vandals in

Arepo, describing the action as barbaric and unconscionable.

The anti-oil theft advocacy group has also announced the appointments of

Hon. Umar Bature and Dr. Adetunji Ogunyemi to serve as members of the

advisory board of the Seal the Crude programme.
A statement signed by Stephen Hemba, Programme Officer, the group

regretted that a fresh rally between the armed forces and other security

and para-military agencies to combat criminality in the waterways and the

delta generally is being resisted by economic saboteurs who now target

security operatives in retaliation.
While grieving with the DSS, the statement however encouraged and

commended the resilience of the entire security agencies against oil

theft, noting that with the resounding national commitment being shown,

the labour of fallen heroes shall never be in vain.

Noting further that the renewed vigour by security agencies is yielding

results as some illegal oil bunkerers have recently been busted, the

statement called on prosecuting agencies especially the Economic and

Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and political authorities to upscale

their engagements against arrested oil thieves.
Hon. Bature the statement said, brings to the board a vast wealth of

knowledge, exposure and experience in security intelligence, policy

formulation and oil industry operations being a retired military officer

and two-time member of the House of Representatives.

Dr. Ogunyemi on his part is a brilliant economic historian with the

Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He brings to bear on the Seal the

Crude programme perspectives on economic imperatives of oil, budgeting and

other academic and intellectual contributions to the programme.

Seal the Crude is a dedicated advocacy programme that provides a platform

for sensitisation, enlightenment and harnessing of ideas, events and

activities relating to the economic problem of theft of crude oil

resources plaguing the Nigerian economy.
