Intl. Flight Operations To Begin At Ibom Airport June 2016

As the Ibom International Airport gears up for International FlightOperations, the terminal building and other facilities are to be redesigned to accommodate the expected influx of local and international passengers.

Governor Udom Emmanuel dropped the hint during the inspection of the intended runway currently being upgraded at the Airport.

He Observed that the taxi way is designed to carry 747 and 380 series of International Airbus cargo which he said would touch down the Airport from June next year. "the main runway can take any kind of aircraft. It can take Airbus A380, Boeing 747 Aircraft. The length of the runway can meet any category of highest grade in terms of Airport development. We are building for the future".

Governor Emmanuel added that his administration is vigorously pursuing the development of the three major economic Gateways, Air, Land and sea Infrastructure to create wealth and sustainable development.

He commended the contracting firm Gitto Construction Company and management of the Airport for their commitment to evolve effective service delivery in quality and specification.

The State Chief Executive maintained that the dwindling allocation of funds occasioned by global fall in oil prices will not slow the pace of development given the public private partnership arrangement as well as direct funding from the State government.

Briefing the Governor, the Chairman Airport Management Committee Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga and Commissioner for Special Duties Engineer Etido Inyang said that the work is done according to specification to enable it stand the taste of time.

The Project Manager, Mr Marco Fenini said that the Airport is built to cater for different varieties of Aircraft and that the Runway would accommodate more Aircrafts without any hitch and congratulated the State Government for the vision.
