ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, September 4, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU), at its 541th meeting held on 31 August 2015, received a briefing from the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Guinea on the political dialogue in that country.

Council welcomed the signing of the Political Agreement in preparation for the elections. In this regard, Council expressed its appreciation to H.E. President Alpha Condé, for his efforts in favour of political dialogue to resolve all differences relating to the electoral process.

Council also commended the Guinean political actors for demonstrating political maturity, goodwill, flexibility, and a shared commitment to holding credible, inclusive, and peaceful elections by successfully signing the Political Agreement.

Council encouraged the Guinean political actors to build on this positive development by continuing to work together in preparation for the successful organization of elections on the basis of the signed Agreement.

Council urged all Guinean political actors to implement the Agreement in good faith, with a view to creating conducive conditions for the successful holding of free, transparent and credible elections, whose results will not only be accepted by all political stakeholders, but will also contribute to the deepening of the democratic process in Guinea and allow the country to achieve national cohesion, social and economic development.

Council stressed the necessity of providing support to Guinea since elections constitute moments of political and social vulnerability for African countries.

Council requested the AU Commission Department of Political Affairs to keep the Council regularly informed about the evolution of the situation in Guinea, particularly, with regard to preparations for the upcoming elections.
