HURIWA Carpets APC On Violations Of Pro-Poor Electoral Promises
...Says Buhari Must Feed School Children As Promised:
A pro-democracy Non-Governmental organization – HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA), has lambasted the national hierarchy of the national ruling party – All Progressives Congress (APC) for flagrantly breaching (pro-poor monthly allowances), a core electoral promise upon which majority of the suffering masses voted its presidential candidate -President Muhammade Buhari into office on March 2015.
HURIWA said the recent tepid attempt through a poorly crafted subterfuge by the National Publicity Secretary of APC to repudiate these sacred pledges made during the Presidential campaign by the now inaugurated President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria amounted to political fraud which must be condemned by all persons of hood will irrespective of political party affiliations. HURIWA has therefore asked President Buhari to immediately introduce measures for the payment of unemployment stipends and begin the public school feeding programme without further political gerrymandering.
HURIWA has therefore asked President Buhari and his political party to quickly search for ways and means of transparently implementing all the pro-poor electoral promises the party made to the poor electorate or the president should tender apologies and resign forthwith.
The APC through its spokesman Alhaji Lai Mohammed had stated thus; “They say we are yet to fulfill our campaign promises to Nigeria, but they have forgotten that if only the PDP/Jonathan administration had not stolen Nigeria blind, there would have been more than enough money to give school children in Nigeria not just one but three meals a day and even pay N5,000 to 50 million most vulnerable Nigerians, not just the 25 million we promised in our manifesto,” APC said.
But in a statement jointly signed by the National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director Miss Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA charged the President and his political party to stop giving lame excuses, but to device innovative process of generating the needed revenue for use in fulfilling all the pro-poor electoral promises or risk rubbishing public trust and confidence.
HURIWA cited section 14(2) subsection (a) and (b) which provides that;“it is hereby, accordingly, declared that;” Sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria from whom government through this Constitution derives all its powers and authority; The security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government".
The Rights group therefore asked the Federal Government to hit the ground running by properly constituting the executive council of the federation or the federal cabinet so it can very transparently fulfill all the obligations and promises the political party employed to canvass for votes at the last election because anything short of that is a fraud.
