The Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Adeola has advocated stiffer penalties for candidates who filed frivolous election petitions after losing out in a free and fair election as the practice constitute serious distraction for winners as well as a waste of judicial time.

Senator Adeola in his congratulatory message to Mr. Adewunmi Ambode on his final victory at the Appeal Court stated that he is happy that the court imposed a fine on the appellant to be paid to all the respondents stressing that the fine should be stiffer to discourage frivolous electoral petitions.

The Senator, who represents the largest Senatorial District in Nigeria said most of the electoral petitions are frivolous and are only targeted at saving the face of the losers who are not courageous enough to accept defeat at the poll adding that had no doubt that Ambode won fairly in the March 28,2015 election and will take Lagos State to new heights in development of burgeoning the megacity.

“Governor Ambode is a seasoned administrator with vast experience of Lagos State and the developmental challenges of various areas of the state. The confirmation of his victory at the appeal court is a good omen for development of democracy and Lagos State” Senator Adeola stated.
