Oftentimes we hear of abuse of rights of Nigerian citizens both at home and in the Diaspora without setting up functional, reliable and quantifiable standards to its promotion and protection within the thirty six, 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory Abuja. Citing the rude air of bewilderment ravaging humanity at this part of the continent, the persistent high prone of molestation, intimidation and restiveness is becoming unbearable.

Global Rights Development International, GRDI is ready to fast track human rights to the grassroots through effective performance and result oriented approach to its work. It has identified major thematic areas of focus to include, Rights protection, Development, Advocacy & civil society activism, Freedom of expression & the media, Independence of judiciary & access to justice, Police, Prison & other detention matters, Governance, Communal conflicts & other related matters, Women gender, Children, Labour, Education, Health, Menace of baby factory, Election violence and other related matters.

Unarguably, it is by ignorance that fundamental human rights are abused or trampled upon. Global Rights Development International is working assiduously to make Nigeria a human rights free society. Its Volunteers are all over the globe and accessible for speedy interventions at all times. GRDI is incorporated with cooperate affairs commission, CAC, member of Department of Economics & Social Affairs, DESA, civil society coalition of the United Nations in Geneva. It works impartially, neutrally and humanely under the aegis of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, UDHR, promulgated by the resolution of United Nations Assembly 1948 & brought to NIGERIA as a universal remedy for human rights.

It is quite regrettable and lawless that human rights which are supposedly accruable by virtue of our existence as human and as a legal document enshrined in chapter IV of 1999 Nigerian constitution is rather yielding a reversal of justice and has in turn accrued in-surmountable impunity& unwholesome corruption to the detriment of every person.

Alas, I have written severally on functional measures for checking human rights abuse to include prompt intervention, proper documentation and speedy dispensation of justice. Proving to the world that human right is sacrosanct, I have recorded close to one thousand interventions as a human rights advocate & International Director of GRDI.

Before 2011 general elections in Nigeria, GRDI obtained a commitment from Amnesty International and other partners to identify, document and forward names of people who would bear the greatest responsibilities for worst forms of human rights violations, violence and destruction to human life and property of innocent citizens of Nigeria.

Imo state for instance, it is no longer news, we hear of non-payment of salaries, abuse of public offices by indolent appointees, diversion and mis-management of public funds, increase on categories of call girls, illegal arrest by law enforcement agents, forceful acquisition of communal & family land, landlord-tenant problems, public transporters/passengers abuse. Perhaps other states of the federation are witnessing such categories of human rights violations & crimes ravaging humanity.

Dr. Rufus Duru, National president of GRDI had released a communiqué at a National Executive Council Meeting held recently in Owerri, the capital city of Imo state Nigeria saying “GRDI is notifying all and sundry of its readiness to fully actualize that mandate of holding violators of human rights to account using instrumentality of our partners in one hand and international mechanism of the international criminal court, ICC as was the case in Kenya recently on the other. Global Rights Dev. Intl’ may not be in the position to notify individuals suspected of any malfeasance before forwarding their names’

“Human Rights as it concerns Democracy and Governance, leadership class has failed the voting public. It has since been experimental management, supremacy by a certain class of people, ’the ruling class’ parading mischief and greed on the altar of governance. Kleptomaniacs, extremists and mundane activities have en-cloaked due process and the expected democratic dividends is the political product of indescribable hardship in the universe”

It is expected of Nigerian Government to take human rights matters very seriously to synchronize with empathy the prayers of the less privileged and the grey-headed aged ones amongst us and savor their demands. There is need to include activists and compassionate hopeful in the President Buhari’s proposed ministerial & cabinet appointment, likewise other levels of government in Nigeria to follow suit.
