Minister Paradis Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Canadian Council on Africa

OTTAWA, Canada, July 31, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, and Jean J. Gauthier, President and CEO of the Canadian Council on Africa (CCAfrica) sign a memorandum of understanding between Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada and CCAfrica to help strengthen the contribution of the Canadian private sector to sustainable economic growth in Africa.

Minister Paradis and Mr. Gauthier also discussed Canada's development efforts and Canadian engagement in Africa.

The Government of Canada's objectives to promote trade and investment in Africa include:

• opening new markets to increase opportunities for Canadian exports;

• focusing on specific sectors, such as extractives and energy, to highlight Canadian expertise; and

• enhancing Canada's reputation as a world-class corporate citizen committed to sharing knowledge and expertise with developing countries.

CCAfrica is a not-for-profit organization and the only national organization dedicated to promoting trade and economic development between Canada and Africa. Its network includes key decision makers from every sector of the economy, representing both private and public sectors.

The Government of Canada is committed to using innovative approaches to partnerships and funding sources to maximize international development efforts and poverty reduction in Africa.
