Ekiti State government has declared that the State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose will not shield criminals as done by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of Dr Kayode Fayemi, describing the party's defence of arrested murder suspects in the State as a demonstration of the APC's support for the murder of innocent Ekiti people.

Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, who reacted to the APC claim that Governor‎ Fayose was turning opposition leaders in the State to murder suspects, said;

"The APC loudmouths should let the public know whether Fayose was the governor when the former Chairman of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Rotimi Olanbiwonu (Mentilo) and others were arrested and charged to court for alleged murder of Chief Adeleye Awolumate in 2010."

Olayinka said the APC was acting like a congregation of criminals that will rise in defence of their fellow criminals.

He said; "We were in this State when a certain aide of the governor was going about with guns and nobody could call in to order.

"We were in Ekiti when APC was in power between October 2010 and 2014 that innocent Ekiti people were murdered at will while the government looked the other way.

"When Adeleye Awolumate was murdered on November 15, 2010, it was the APC government that went to court to make 'no case submission' to set free Mentilo and others arrested and charged to court by the police.

"It was the same APC government of Fayemi that frustrated the trial of those arrested and charged to court on the murder of Foluso Ogundare, who was killed in broad daylight in Emure Ekiti on November 3, 2013.

"It on record that the APC government then, played prominent roles in securing bail for the party's assembly member, Kehinde Boluwade and eight others accused of killing Foluso Ogundare.

"The bad news for the APC people is that era of impunity is gone and they should get that into their crime infested heads. They should tell their State Chairman, Jide Awe, Deji Adesokan (Jaru) and others that are hiding from arrest and prosecution that very soon, the long arms of the law will catch up with them.

"Under Fayose, criminals will not be protected and those who were responsible for the killings witnessed under the APC government will not escape justice."
