The Department of State Services, DSS on Wednesday released the Chief Security Officer to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Gordon Obua.

Obua, who was held from July 16, 2015,  was allowed to go after a comprehensive de-briefing by operatives of the DSS.

Security sources said that Obua was released around 10pm Tuesday's night and had spent the night with his family.

There were speculations that Obua who reportedly collapsed while been held at the DSS facility in Abuja had died in detention.

His lawyers  had also raised the alarm that he was denied access to his doctor, lawyer and family members and also denied access to his medications for hypertension and diabetes.

To dispel the death rumour, Odua was presented before newsmen at the operative's conference room, where he expressed surprised over the rumour of his dead.

His words, “Gentlemen of the press, let me use this opportunity to thank all Nigerians, members of my family, and concerned citizens who have expressed very serious concerns for the past six days, because of the prevailing situation between me and my office.

“This morning my attention was drawn to a report that I have died in detention. This has caused serious anxiety within the populace. I want to use this medium to tell Nigerians, members of my family and all concerned citizens that I am healthy.

“I am a staff of the Department of State Services, DSS, and having completed my tour of duties as Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the last President, the Service feels that I should give account of my tenure.

“So far, there is no adverse situation and I am optimistic that Nigerians will be informed about the outcome of this exercise. Once again, I thank you immensely and I want to use this opportunity to thank the Director General of DSS, Mr. Mohamed Daura, for the way he has treated me from the time I came in to this period.

“Nigerians should be assured that the Department of State Services is a very responsible organisation, and I believe that nothing adverse will be done to my person if I have not done anything wrong.”
