Transparency And War Against Corruption: Emerhor Commends President Buhari’s Steady Progress.

By FRED OGHENESIVBE

Those attacking President Muhammadu Buhari for not appointing ministers after barely six weeks in office have been advised to join hands with the government in power to bring about the “Change” that Nigerians deserve and voted for.

All Progressives Congress (APC), governorship candidate in the April 11 elections in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor gave the advice in a statement by his Senior Special Adviser on Media and Political Communication, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe.

He said the attackers of President Buhari should know that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wrecked the socio-economic boat of the nation which is why the government of the day at national level needed time to scrutinize the books and accounts of the Jonathan’s administration before recruiting new hands to run the system.

Emerhor who holds national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) posited that Mr. President who is well known globally for his “Zero Corruption” crusade will not be in a hurry to do the needful to put round pegs in round roles, adding that it is expected that after sixteen (16) years of massive corruption and economic saboutage slammed on the Nation by the PDP government, the APC led government will of a necessity dig deep to ensure sanity and good governance in order to restore the nation’s fractured image in the comity of nations.

Oghenesivbe quoted Emerhor as saying that President Buhari being a proactive and transparent leader deserves commendation from Nigerians for ordering the immediate closure of a reasonable number of bank accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and in the same token ordered the sharing of taxes from the Nigerian Liquefied Gas Company (LNG) to the three tiers of government, a development that was alien to the nation’s financial management under the PDP led government.

He assured that the President will do anything and everything within his powers to correct the ills in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government through forensic auditing, blocking of financial leakages, prosecution of corrupt government officials whether past or present especially those found to have consciously and deliberately plunge this nation into huge debts and other local and international financial crimes.

Emerhor who is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), is optimistic that the fifty percent (50%) cut in the salaries of Mr. President and his Vice is a pointer to the fact that other senior public officers and political office holders will have to adjust and be ready to make similar sacrifice, to blend with the desire of the Buhari’s administration to curb excesses in public spending; so as to save enough material and financial resources to grow our economy and embark on a holistic socio-economic remodeling of Nigeria.

The Delta APC 2015 governorship candidate who is currently seeking justice at the Delta State Electoral Tribunal said the chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Nasiru Gumi has demonstrated high level of integrity and unequaled legal skills at the pre-trial stages of the petition before him, adding that hopes are high that justice will be done to free Delta State from crude politics where rigging and electoral malpractices held sway for sixteen (16) years.
