Imo State Union Of Elders Uk Lauds Canuk Chairman, Babatunde Loye
In his tireless effort to reposition and take the Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK) to the next level, the Chairman, Mr Babatunde Loye took his membership drive to Winkfield Resource Centre, Wood Green, in North London where he met, registered and had lunch with members of Imo State Elders Union, United Kingdom.
Welcoming the CANUK Leader, the Chairman of Imo State Union of Elders, Elder Adolph Agbasonu thanked Mr Loye for the respect he has shown to the members by coming personally to see them and registering the Union as a member of CANUK. He said it should have been the other way round, but by this singular act, you have demonstrated in no small way the respect you have for Senior Citizens. You have started well and your action is very commendable.
Elder Agbasonu further told the CANUK Chairman that the Union is a pool of knowledgeable men he can consult anytime for advice. We are all retired, but as professionals in different fields, we are not tired.
In his speech, Mr Loye thanked the elders for inviting him to their meeting. Continuing he said ‘I am very happy today to be amongst our great fathers in the UK and I commend you for your sense of organisation and patriotism. I sincerely appreciate our diversity as a nation which is part of our strength and CANUK wants to tap into it to build a strong and inclusive Association for all Nigerians living in the United Kingdom’
‘Since I assumed office about two months ago, I have visited many Nigerian Community Organizations in the UK to acquaint myself with their various activities and also brief them on CANUK and its programmes. But to my greatest surprise, some of them have not even heard about CANUK’. Mr Loye told the Elder that CANUK is an umbrella Organization that overseas all Nigerian Associations and work hand-in-hand with the Nigerian High Commission, UK.
He invited Members of the Union to a Property Seminar in London on August 4th 2015. He said CANUK has now reached an understanding with a Developer in Nigeria to build ‘Affordable Homes’ for Nigerians in the UK. Members of CANUK with a ‘code’ can also get a 20% discount on ARIK AIR flights. And there will soon be a Discount Card for our members which can be used in African shops in the UK.
On immigration he said CANUK is organising free Immigration Surgery on the 4th July 2015 with a panel of Lawyers to sort out immigration problems for Nigerians and that he will personally supervise the surgery on the day.
