BEVERLY HILLS, June 30 (THEWILL) – The Standing Orders of the House of Representatives are set to be reviewed with a view to record efficient and improved process of legislation.

The Speaker of the House, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Tuesday, inaugurated a 15-member committee to achieve this objective, explaining that the amendment of the rules was to strengthen the operation of the lower chamber.

Dogara, who was represented by his deputy, Suleiman Yusuf Lasun, said: “There is no aspect of the standing order that is off limits. You should feel free to dissect the standing orders and propose amendments to any rule you think is required to strengthen the operations of the House.”

He charged the committee to ensure that jurisdiction of committees do not overlap as he tasked the committee to carry out all the functions of the standing committee on Rules and Business of the House pending its constitution.

The draft standing order is scheduled to be ready within three weeks.

The ad hoc committee’s chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Orker-Jev (APC, Benue), said members of his committee were ready to discharge the duty as stipulated.

“I want to assure you that members of this committee are full of enthusiasm and ready to do their work within the terms of reference,” Orker-Jev said.
