Didier Reynders concerned about the elections in Burundi
BRUSSELS, Kingdom of Belgium, June 29, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders is deeply concerned about the organization of parliamentary and local elections in Burundi, today 29th of June. The principles of inclusiveness, transparency and credibility are not respected.
Belgium regrets that Burundi has chosen to ignore the recommendations of the African Union and of the East African Community. These recommendations aim at a consensual solution and dialogue.
Didier Reynders believes that these elections are neither credible nor likely to resolve the crisis in Burundi. The Minister fears that they further divide the country. Belgium continues to support the international facilitation efforts and urges the Government of Burundi to take into account the positions set out by the African international organizations and the United Nations.
