About 12.5 million people have been registered under the Bank Verification Number exercise, ongoing in banks across the country.

The Bankers Committee made this known today,at a press briefing held after its 322nd meeting,at the CBN headquarters, in Abuja

Speaking at the event,CEO,United Bank for Africa,Mr Oduaza, said the BVN exercise has made significant progress so far, stressing that there's still room to close the gap before the given deadline of june 30th.

The committee however urged customers of financial institutions across the country who are yet to enrol,to do so, as failure to comply will deny them the opportunity of having further access to banking services.

On her part,Director Banking Supervision, Mrs Tokunbo Martins charged banks to encourage their debtors to promptly pay up on their loans.

While noting the deadline for payment as August, the bankers committee warned that erring debtors will have their names published in national newspapers.
