LAUTECH Elected Union Officials Sworn In

The much anticipated and controversial electronically conducted LAUTECH student union government elections has finally been concluded on Tuesday, 2nd of June with Bakare Olumide a.k.a. SOLACE as the pronounced winner of the presidential poll. Although, there have been some skirmishes arising from poor management of electoral situations that disrupted the process of the poll; which caused for the delay and later suspension of the election at some point.

The Electoral chairman, Oke Oluwaseun a.k.a DR YOUNG, a 500 level Student of Management and Accounting Department; following the final count of the total vote cast on Tuesday afternoon declared SOLACE winner of the poll with only 20 points ahead of Comrade Ayeni Samuel, ZEAL who was the major contender in the race.

The election, which was earlier slated to hold on 28th of March, 2015 was declared inconclusive for a serious fuss that occurred during the electoral process from party-candidate rift differences. The outcome was so unthinkable that, the school management had to come-in in order to maintain law and order. Like a good mother, the school management restored the rift and granted that the election be continued and concluded on the 2nd of June 2015.

On the completion of the voting process in the afternoon of Tuesday, Comrade Ayeni Samuel (ZEAL) polled a total of 2211 votes, which was only twenty below Solace's 2231 total number of votes; while Adeyemi BEPO and Olabintan BABALOLA got 393 and 377 votes respectively.

The post of the VICE PRESIDENT 1 went to Ogunwale Esther, E-QUEEN who got 2157 votes, while her contenders, Bakare Tobiloba, MZ TOMAT and Akomolafe Esther, JUMMY had 1639 and 1381 votes respectively. Oyadeyi Shukurat, MZ PREFFERRED was declared the elected VICE PRESIDENT 11, having 2920 votes while Shoyinka Samuel, SAMSHOW was blessed with 2250 votes. Enigbokan Ayokunle won as the GENERAL SECRETARY with 1965 votes; his opponents, Abdussalam Mahmud, MODA and Oladapo Babatunde, HOLYBOY had 1771 and 1427 votes respectively. Abimbola Saheed, ALLAN SEED defeated Arikawe Mayowa, MASCOT as the ASSISTANT GENERAL SECRETARY with a wide margin of 3175 to 1973 votes.

Olofinhaka Oluwafemi, OLUFENSON was declared the elected FINANCIAL SECRETARY, having the majority votes of 1932;Olawuwo Stephen, STEVO had 1803 votes and Bello Afolabi, AFOO had 1398 votes.

For Office of the PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, Opejin Samuel, SAMMYLOVE, emerged victorious having 2146 votes while his opponents, Yahaya Hammed, DON MARIO and Busari Quadri, ROYALTY, had 2102 votes and 874 votes respectively. The Office of WELFARE DIRECTOR was contested unopposed by Okedara Ridwan, MR PLANET. George Mayowa, GMAYORH, won as the SPORT DIRECTOR, having 2890 votes, while his contender, Ogundare Joseph, JO had 2193 votes. Ibrahim AbdulFatai, RAINBOW defeated Ajeleke Ayobami, FBI with 2943 to 2175 votes.

After the final declaration of the election results, the joy of the patiently waited LADOKITES knows no bound as they started chanting solidarity songs, jubilating and congratulating the elected candidates who were seen around the venue. The Electoral Chairman, Oke Oluwaseun then thanked the students for the support he enjoyed while he conduct the election and for making history as the one who chaired the first Electronically conducted students’ union election in the history of the school. He also enjoined the defeated to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and also to the winners- to live up to their promises as the students are eager to see them bring the change they yearn for in the union.

The elected officers were sworn in on Friday June 5, 2015 by the relevant authorities as the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Sulaiman Gbadegesin, and the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Olabiyisi, pledged their commitment to the students’ development and upkeep. They also promised the union their cooperation and support while also warning them against excesses. The president, Bakare SOLACE expressed joy over his emergence; said his passion to lead the students was to deliver to them a Selfless Sacrificing Services. He thanked the ecstatic students for the support he enjoyed and the confidence reposed in him, pledged not to renege on his promises.
