By NBF NEWS

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday said it had started the distribution of non-sensitive materials, ahead of Saturday's council poll in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Head of Public Affairs, INEC FCT, Mr. Okezie Nwankwo, said that the commission embarked on the distribution process early to avoid any hitch, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

He said, 'We don't want anyone to accuse INEC of bringing the materials late.'

He added that the materials were issued to all the 16 political parties in the presence of security agents and party agents.

He said, 'The decision is to ensure that everybody is given a level playing ground to ensure transparency in the conduct of the election.'

Nwankwo said that the commission would also ensure that by noon on Friday (today), all the materials would have reached all the wards.

The materials were distributed at the INEC Electoral Institute.

Meanwhile, more than 102 journalists have been accredited to cover the elections.

The Deputy Director, Public Affairs, INEC, Mr. Nike Dazan, who stated this in Abuja, added that the turnout of journalists had been impressive, saying that the exercise will continue on Friday.
