Group Hails Security Agencies Over Ekiti Assembly Closure

The Ekiti Democratic Coalition (EDC) has hailed the security agencies, especially the police for sealing up the State House of Assembly and ensuring adequate security within and around the Assembly Complex, adding that; “the House of Assembly must be secured till the end of this week that the tenure of the present lawmakers will end.

The group noted that; “since two individuals are laying claim to the Speakership of the House of Assembly and there is a subsisting court order that status quo ante belum as at April 23, 2015 be maintained, the most sensible thing to do in the circumstance is for the House to be sealed up as done by the police so as to prevent breakdown of law and order.”

Rising from its meeting in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, the EDC, in a communique signed by its Convener, Comrade Boladale Adeniyi and made available to journalists on Sunday, said those putting pressure on the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers to invade the State with thugs on Monday to impeach Governor Ayodele Fayose were only interested in plunging the State into chaos.

EDC said since the court case involving the 26 lawmakers, the Clerk and the Police will come up on June 4, and the order of the court that status quo be maintained still subsists, it was sure that the police, as a party to the suit, will not allow any of the parties to come close to the House of Assembly Complex.

The communique read; “We visited the House of Assembly on Saturday and we were very impressed with the presence of armed policemen in and around the House of Assembly Complex.

“We are also aware that those urging the APC lawmakers to invade the State on Monday were turned down by the military when they tried to lure the Army into the evil project of impeaching Governor Fayose.

“Most importantly, we are delighted that Ekiti people, who voted for Governor Fayose have demonstrated their readiness to lay down their lives to protect their mandate and the security agencies are fully aware of this determination.

“In the light of this, it is expected that security agents will continue to keep vigil at the House of Assembly as they have been doing in the last two months so as to prevent breakdown of law and order in the event of any plan by either of the two factions to forcefully gain access into the House.

“Finally, since the tenure of the present lawmakers will end this week, security agents must do everything within their powers to prevent breakdown of law and order in the State and the only to do this is to keep all the lawmakers away from the House.”
