BEVERLY HILLS, May 30, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have declared their assets at the Code of Conduct Bureau as required by law, Shehu, Garba, the head of the President's media team said in a statement on Saturday.

The statement said the leaders, who were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), filed their asset declaration forms separately on Thursday, a day before their inauguration.

The asset declaration forms have not been made public and the statement did not say whether they would. Buhari and Osinbajo had promised to be transparent and accountable to Nigerians if elected during their campaign.

Only President Umaru Yar'Adua (deceased) and then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan have publicly declared their assets since democracy was restored in 1999. Jonathan however refused to publicly declare his assets when he was elected President in 2011.
