LONDON, United-Kingdom, May 21, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The British High Commission, in conjunction with the Sanata Restart Centre, will officially open a new school for vulnerable and homeless street children in Gilgil on Saturday, 23 May from 11 am to 2 pm. The event will be held at the new Restart Centre in Langalanga, a short drive from Gilgil town.

The British High Commission has been working closely with the Restart Centre since 2013 when the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) uncovered a British child sex offender, Simon Harris, living in the community and using the cover of a children's charity to abuse street children over many years. As a result of close collaboration between Kenyan and British authorities, Harris is now serving a UK prison sentence of more than 17 years. All of Harris' victims are now being cared for by the Restart Centre and have a secure home, food, and education.

The Restart Centre cares for 100 children aged between 4 months and 23 years and the new school comes complete with four classrooms, dormitories, a dining hall and computer lab.

Speaking at the opening will be the British High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr. Christian Turner, Cabinet Secretary for Labour, Social Security and Services, Amb. Raychelle Omamo, Nakuru County Governor, H.E Kinuthia Mbugua and Gilgil MP, Hon. Mathenge Ndiritu.

Members of the media are invited to cover the event, arrival by 10:30am.
