Group tells Aregbesola to pay Osun workers
The Osun Mandate Group has urged Governor Rauf Aregbesola to use any means to pay civil servants who have not been paid for the past six months.
The group said this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Tuesday by its chairman, Bimbo Adunola and the secretary, Gbemi Olufiade.
Adunola said Aregbesola should look for money by all means and pay the workers who he said had been subjected to serious economic hardship because of the unpaid salaries.
The group stated that the non-payment of civil servants for more than six months by the Osun State Government was the reason for the increasing number of beggars in the state.
According to the OMG, some civil servants have also resorted to begging to pay transport fares and to feed themselves.
The group said that the economy of the state which depended on the money paid to workers had been paralysed because of the crisis and this, he said, had become a serious security concern.
The statement read, 'Since Gen. Buhari, on whom many indebted states put their hope, has come clear that there would not be quick fixes for many challenges facing the country, including poor financial situation of many states, Governor Aregbesola must find any means to pay workers' salaries.'
