Christian Community Loses 2 More Members In Maiduguri IDPs Camp

SAN FRANCISCO, May 10, (THEWILL) – The Christian Community weekend lost two more members at the Church of Brethren (EYN) Jerusalem internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, thus bringing the number of deaths recorded by the community at the EYN IDP camps to nine.

The deceased were part of the 48,348 registered Christian IDPs camped at the various EYN Jerusalem camps in Maiduguri.

Disclosing this on Sunday in Maiduguri, the Christian Camp Coordinator of Ekkliziyyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN) Church No.1 Wulari/Jerusalem), Mr. Daniel Ali Garga, said the two IDPs passed away on Saturday.

He identified one of the deceased as Daniel Kadagha, aged 47, who left behind six children, saying he gave up at the State Specialists Hospital Maiduguri (SSHM) after battling with kidney failure.

He said the second IDP was a woman, Tani Dughwadza, aged 68 who died of cardiac arrest at the camp.

It was gathered that two other Christians IDPs who suffered psychiatric problem had been placed on admission, treated and later discharged at the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Maiduguri.

The Christian IDPs were brought from Gwoza, Chibok, Damboa, Askira/Uba, Kukawa local government areas of the state following the sacking of their communities last year by Boko Haram insurgents.

Others came from Michika and Madagali council areas of Adamawa State and had been staying at the camps managed by the Borno State chapter of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN).

Lamenting the death of the two IDPs who died weekend, Garga said: “We the entire Christian community in Borno state, particularly those directly coordinating the IDPs camps regret to announce the sudden death and passing to Glory of our brother and sister, Late Daniel Kadagha and Late Tani Dughwadza on Saturday 9th May, 2015.

“I lost two IDPs on Saturday in my camp making a total of nine death recorded so far, may their souls rest in peace Rest in Peace.

“The remains of the two IDPs were interred on Saturday at the Dala Cemetery, Maiduguri at about 3:17pm by Pastor in-charge of EYN LCC Maiduguri, Reverend Bitrus Bdliya, who was assisted by Reverend Bitrus Duwara and Evangelist Bitrus Mamuda.”
