JUDGE FIXES APRIL 22 FOR EFCC'S SUIT AGAINST BAFARAWA

By NBF NEWS

JUSTICE Bello Abbas of Sokoto High Court on Wednesday adjourned the case against former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa and 18 others till April 22 for further mention, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is prosecuting Bafarawa and other accused persons over alleged misappropriation of over N15bn.

Lawyer to the EFCC, Mr. Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), who was represented by Chief Jacob Ochidi, urged the court to adjourn the matter on the grounds that there was a pending motion before the Court of Appeal in Sokoto by one of the accused persons, Chief Mike Umeh.

Umeh had urged the appellate court to direct the high court to stay proceedings in the matter, considering that he was challenging the warrant of arrest on him issued by the lower court.

The Court of Appeal had fixed hearing in the motion for April 15.

Lawyer to Bafarawa, Alhaji Abubakar Malami, agreed on the need for an adjournment while Justice Abbas adjourned the matter till April 22.
