NEMA Offers Relief Materials To Rescued 293 Girls,Women

SAN FRANCISCO, April 30, (THEWILL) – The 293 girls and women recently rescued by the military from Boko Haram enclaves in the Sambisa Forest have been assured of adequate relief once they complete the ongoing profiling and HIV/ pregnancy test being conducted on them.

The assurance came Thursday from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) which indicated its preparedness to deliver relief materials to the rescued girls and women.

In a statement issued by the information officer of the Northeast office of the agency in Maiduguri. AbdulKadir Ibrahim, NEMA stated that “contacts have already been established with the military to deliver immediate relief support to the women that were recently rescued by the troops from camps of the insurgents in Borno State.”

The statement disclosed that NEMA Director General, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sidi, who paid a visit to the headquarters of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, said the agency has also commenced a special needs assessment of the internal displaced persons (IDPs) rescued from previously occupied communities in the state in order to strengthen humanitarian support to them.

The statement added that the NEMA chief executive, who was represented by the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation. Mr. Udemezue Ezeh, disclosed that the agency had prepared some relief items ready for immediate distribution to the recently rescued girls and women even as he requested the military to assist in the delivery of the items to them.

In his response, the General Officer Commanding (GOC of the Nigerian Army 7th Division , who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Hamisu Hassan, expressed appreciation to NEMA for the prompt response as he promised to offer the needed cooperation towards supporting the rescued women..
