The Imo State House of Assembly has approved the sum of #23.752bn as supplementary budget for the year ended 2014.

Speaking during the plenary session after its recess, the Majority Leader and member for Ahiazu Mbaise state constituency, Hon. Mrs. Adaku Ihuoma called on her colleagues to give the speedy passage to the supplementary budget, adding that it would enable the executive to carry out its duties in the interest of the people.

In his contribution, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu thanked the members for still making out time to do their legislative duties, despite the electioneering campaigns. He however congratulated the President-Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Rochas Okorocha on their victory in the election.

It would be recalled that of all the House members that contested the 2015 general elections, only few of them were returned. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu who ran for Okigwe zone senatorial seat under All Progressives Congress (APC) lost to PDP candidate, the Deputy Speaker and the Majority Leader, Rt. Hon. Donatus Ozoemena and Hon. Adaku Ihuoma respectively who contested for House of Representatives also lost to PDP candidates, among others who did not make it.

However, APC clinched 22 positions in Imo House of Assembly, while PDP got 5 seats. The battle for Speakership has also started as it is expected to come from Okigwe zone, since the Governor comes from Orlu zone and Deputy Governor is from Owerri zone.
