Kids kidnapped by nanny found

Three kids kidnapped by their nanny in Lagos have been found.

The Guardian reports that the  father of the kids, Lere Orekoya,  confirmed this development in a text message sent to journalists at about 1:30am on Wednesday.

Oekoya in the message thanked  journalists for the assistance they rendered while the family's ordeal lasted. The nanny, Mary Akinloye, kidnapped the kids – Aderomola (11 months old), Adedamola (four years old), and Demola (six years old) – a day after she resumed for duties.

Akinloye demanded for an initial ransom of N15 million. She, however, reduced it to N13 million, threatening that any further request for reduction would result in the death of the children. Orekoya did not disclose if any ransom was paid.

The once devastated mother of the kidnapped kids yesterday took to her Facebook account to announce that her children have been found. The kids' mother, Mrs. Adekunle Busayo Orekoya, wrote to confirm that the kids were reunited with their parents yesterday. “We give God all the glory. Our missing kids have been found.

Thank you so much everyone for your prayers, moral and financial support all along. The list is endless, of awesome mothers, sisters, business partners, fathers and even kids too. You have been amazing! May God grant all your heart desires too. Much love always.”

No word was also mention about the ransom if it was paid or not, as the family decided to be silent on that aspect, except that they were rescued by the police on Tuesday night and the children are in a safe place undergoing medical check up.

It would be recalled that the nanny who kidnapped the children was employed through a popular e-commerce website, OLX. Country Manager of OLX Nigeria, Ms. Lola Masha, reacting to the incident, said: “This is an unfortunate situation and our sympathies go out to the victim and their family. OLX is an online classifieds site that brings buyers and sellers together to promote trade.

“We take steps to moderate and review all ads but we do not participate in the negotiations between buyers and sellers. Transactions are performed directly between both parties.

In all our marketing campaign, we continuously urge our users to take necessary precautionary checks when using OLX. “We will continue to innovate and improve our review process with tighter measures that would help to minimize future occurrence of negative incidents.”
