Amaechi imposes curfew on Rivers

The announcement of an imposition of curfew in the state by the Rivers State Government threw Port Harcourt into panic and confusion.

The Secretary to the Government, Mr. George Feyii, who made the announcement said that the curfew would be effective from 7pm to 6am.

Feyii pointed out that the curfew would continue until further notice, adding that the aim was to protect lives and property of law abiding citizens.

Motorists and passersby, who got wind of the announcement late, rushed home just as residents looking for petrol to fuel their generators had to shelve the idea and went back home with their empty cans.

According to the statement signed by Feyii, ''The Rivers State Government has declared a dusk to dawn curfew in the state beginning from Monday, March 30, 2015.

'Consequently residents in the state are by this announcement advised to observe the declaration of the curfew from the hour of 7pm to 6am except for workers on special duties.

'This is to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the state and to ensure the protection of lives and property of law abiding citizens. The curfew subsists until further notice.'
