Delta 2015: Emerhor To Build More Schools, Increase Law School Bursary.

As the presidential campaigns winds down the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Olorogun O'tega Emerhor yesterday held a town hall meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Delta State University chapter, promising to pay special attention to education if he voted as the governor of the state.

The town hall meeting which was held at Gordon's Resort Hotel, Abraka, Delta State, was interactive in nature as the union and some students who attended had opportunity to ask the APC candidate serious questions that bothers the university and the state.

Speaking at the town hall meeting, Emerhor who thrilled the lecturers and student with his intelligent answers to questions asked him, lamented that education in the state was completely bastardized by the ruling party.

He said his government will concentrate on dealing with the root cause of low quality of education by paying attention to teachers training and retraining, build more primary schools and colleges as well as increase student bursaries by two hundred per cent.

Emerhor also promise to increase Law School students bursary from N100,000 to N350,000 so as to enable Delta Students at the Nigerian Law School concentrate to pass their BAR Part II final examinations in flying colours.

Emerhor promised to increase the percentage of budget that goes to education, saying that what is budgeted for education is a far cry from what it is supposed to be, maintaining that no nation develops without education.

He said he will introduce floating primary schools to the riverine communities where access to education is very difficult, adding that it will enable parents have their children educated even while they are doing their fishing business.

He said his coming into politics at this time is timely because as a turnaround business guru he has what it takes to turn the state around and make it the envy of other states in country.

The APC candidate attributed the high rate of crime in the stare to unemployment, saying young people go into crime because they do not have anything to do. He said he is going to engage the youths to work by attracting more industries into the state.

While saying that the PDP are bereaved of new ideas because they don't think outside the box, Emerhor said he is in the governorship race because he wants to bring new ideas that will change the way government is run.

He said successive government over the years have been running government like parastatals, adding leaders who are supposed to be servants of the people are not accountable to people because they rigged themselves into power.

He promised that his government will be accountable to the people by ensuring that he holds periodic town hall meetings to interact with the people all the time.

On roads, Emerhor said he will introduce toll gates to major roads in the state, explaining that toll gate are far cheaper to run as people will driving in smooth and good roads which will turn save people from the agony of repairing their cars and treating themselves in hospitals when they have accident.
