PDP Condemns Attack on Wike’s Campaign Train at Ulakwo-Etche

By Rivers State PDP

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the attack on the campaign train of its Gubernatorial Candidate, Chief (Barr) Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike last Saturday at Ulakwo in Etche Local Government Area of the state.

The party through a statement by State Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah and signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Jerry Needam said gunmen suspected to be members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) shot sporadically at Wike's convoy at Ulakwo-Etche and described the attack as provocative and one too many.

The PDP said the attack was a confirmation that APC has declared war against Rivers people, stressing that APC was unhappy because the people had accepted and acknowledged Wike as their next Governor.

PDP stated that it would not be cowed by threats or intimidation from unprogressive forces, adding that Wike and the PDP remained resolute in the determination to bring solace to Rivers people come May 29, 2015.

The party blamed the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Charles Anyanwu with the support of Dakuku Peterside, APC Governorship candidate for the attack and revealed it had uncovered plans by the APC to cause chaos in the area with the aim of scuttling the general elections.

It advised the APC to tow the path of reason and quit politics of violence, urging the party to convince Rivers people if it had anything good to offer, adding that the spate of attacks against its Governorship hopeful as shown in Abua Odual, Bakana and Ulakwo-Etche were acts of a drowning man desperately groping for unsuspecting victims who will go with him.

The PDP warned APC and their cohorts to desist from further harassment and unprovoked attack on Chief Wike, his convoy and the numerous supporters of the party in the state.

While calling on law enforcement agencies to closely monitor the activities of APC in the state, PDP also called on the national leadership of APC to call its members in Rivers State to order.

Signed.
