17 Killed, 50 Injured In Yobe Auto Crash

BEVERLY HILLS, February 03, (THEWILL) – An auto crash in Dogon-Kukah village in Damagum Local Government Area of Yobe State, Monday, claimed the lives of 17 persons while 50 others were injured.

The Head of the Accident and Emergency unit of the Damagum General Hospital, Mallam Isa Yusuf, who disclosed this said 17 corpses were brought to the hospital while 50 others were undergoing treatment at the hospital for varying degrees of injuries.

He disclosed further that those injured will be treated free for 48 hours according to the policy of the state government, saying those on admission were in stable condition.

Giving a graphic detail of the accident, an eye witness, Mallam Isa Yahaya, explained that a luxury bus and a trailer had a head-on-collision while on top speed, stressing that the front tyres of the luxury bus got burst as it crashed into the trailer coming from the opposite direction, killing 17 persons instantly.

Speaking further, Yahaya said residents of Dogon Kukah assisted in the rescue effort to save those involved in the accident before the arrival of soldiers stationed at a check point in the village.
