BEVERLY HILLS, February 01, (THEWILL) – Boko Haram terrorists early Sunday morning launched another assault on Maiduguri in an attempt to capture the capital city of Borno State, Northeastern Nigeria.

Witnesses said the terrorists launched the attacks from multiple entry points into the city – Ngom, Dalwa Mule and Jawuri, but were engaged by the military and youth vigilante groups.

Several persons are believed to have been killed in Sunday's attack.

“The insurgents launched two rocket propelled grenades into Gindari Polo area killing many civilians, “a member of the vigilante group told correspondents over the phone.

“They have been successfully repelled by the military in conjunction with members of the youth vigilante. We have killed many of them,” the youth who spoke anonymously said.

The youth said the insurgents have been dealt a severe blow and have been pushed back.

This is the Boko Haram's second attempt to take Maiduguri in the last two weeks. Last Sunday it attacked the city with heavy weapons but lost several fighters in the battle with the military
