Tragedy struck in Yobe State when a 12- year old girl Sunday morning  stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by a suspected suicide bomber at a football field in Potiskum town, killing her and the Boko Haram bomber by 7.25pm.

According to Mallam Ibrahim Minso, an eyewitness, the  explosives were brought to the football field in a wheel barrow, before burying it into the ground for detonation. 'We were shocked and terrified with the blast. While some of us were praying in mosques by 7pm, the explosive went off, the sound was deafening and shook nearby buildings, some livestock outside run for safety,' Minso said.

According to him, two bodies were evacuated by the policemen who cordoned off the football field till midnight on Sunday. 'The blast did not cause any damage to buildings and vehicles, as there were no structures or parked vehicles around the football field,' the eyewitness said yesterday in a telephone interview.

The Yobe State police command confirmed yesterday's blast, but said there was no casualty, apart from the suspected suicide bomber. Agency report
