Obasanjo Cannot Claim Ignorance Of Electoral Reforms--PDP
By Oluremi Olatunde Famous, Abuja
The PDP yesterday in Abuja denied media reports quoting former President Olusegun Obasanjo as being
ignorant of the electoral reforms.
In a statement signed by Prof. Rufai Alkali, its National Publicity Secretary, the party said Obasanjo was misquoted in the reports.
Several newspaper reports had quoted the former president and Chairman of the party's Board of Trustees (BOT) of claiming not to be aware of the electoral reforms.
The statement reads "As a highly respected leader and a distinguished Nigerian in every respect, Obasanjo cannot claim he is ignorant of the committee set up by the Federal Government on the
electoral process.
"Given his pre-eminent position as a former president, and his stature as a foremost statesman and
indeed, a very active member of the National Council of State, we would like to believe that Obasanjo
was misquoted in the reports.
"We are aware, like most Nigerians, that the report of the Uwais Committee was extensively deliberated
upon, both at the Federal Executive Council and the National Council of State, where majority of the recommendations have been adopted.
"We therefore, do not believe that Obasanjo will make any statement that will portray him as ignorant
of crucial developments in his country."
